Dissociative Identity DisorderIn the 1950s a psychological phenomena was discovered by two young therapists: Dissociative Identity Disorder. The theory of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) centers around the idea that some people may be capable of carrying more than one distinct personality or identity, called alters (APA, 2000). The most popular case which landed the disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV), a log of psychiatric disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association, is the case of Eve White, a saintly girl who was found to have a rambunctious and uncontrolled alter who called herself Eve Black.
